Nick Palla, a military veteran, resides with his daughter and son-in-law, who recently moved from their home up North to provide full-time care to Nick. Nick suffers from numerous health issues that have compromised his ability to live on his own. With the assistance from his daughter and son-in-law Nick is able to continue to live in his home. Nick owns a mobile home and lives a simple life. Nick has furniture throughout his home that he has attained from thrift stores and has had in his possession for many years. The furniture he owns is falling apart, outdated, and does not suit the needs of Nick and the rest of the household. Nick has always been there for everyone and would “give the shirt off his back” for anyone that needed it. When he owned his concrete company, he would take his employees out for dinner/drinks after a hard day’s work. When his own father was ill, Nick took 3-4 months off to care for him and stayed by his bedside. When his daughter and son-in-law’s house suffered damage due to a fire, Nick dropped everything to help rebuild what the fire destroyed. His family always came first. The Kane Center-Council on Aging of Martin County nominated Nick and his family for the campaign, in which he was selected as one of the recipients for El Dorado Furniture’s 50 Years/50 Families Community Relations Campaign.
